Real Synthetic
That fellow dispensing advice in The Graduate was right: The future was plastics. And the place for playful and practical products from plastic is Plastica — though you'll also find must-haves made of wood, paper, metal, and glass. Art Central
Freehand owner Carol Sauvion searches California and the world for handmade treasures by ceramists, potters, jewelers, weavers, and other talented artisans. Thanks to her keen eye and her attentive staff, this boutique is an important detour on the way to or from the nearby Beverly Center. One favorite piece: the exotic Geoffrey Wheeler bowl populated by flower frogs.

Cake Debate
Sprinkles is easily recognized by the often-long lines outside and the mouthwatering cupcakes inside. Flavors worthy of their Beverly Hills address include the bittersweet Belgian chocolate, Madagascar bourbon vanilla, marshmallow cream, and lemon coconut. And the peanut-butter chip. And the chi latte. Well, you get the idea. Each cupcake wears a small, sugary dot on its top to mark its particular flavor.
