Ice Cream Dream
Eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings, whipped cream, wafers, and a cherry on top — sound like the dessert of your childhood dreams? Well, this sweet spread, known as the “Tchoupitoulas Challenge,” is real and the secret gem of the vivid menu at the Creole Creamery. Down the whole thing yourself and get your name listed on the Wall of Fame (along with George Wendt, of TV’s Cheers). Better yet, bring the whole family along to help and show your little ones that delicious dreams really do come true.

Follow Your Own Path
If your child’s wall finger painting already has you seeking art school applications, the Louisiana Children’s Museum will inspire you and the little ones even further. No aspect of adult life seems to be overlooked, be it a TV news set, radar gun, or kitchen (in addition to about 100 other miniature adult habitats) in this behemoth of a play space. The kids will enjoy a glass-ensconced lightning bolt, while you’ll enjoy the nostalgia of visiting Mr. Rogers’s Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Don’t forget to duck under the trolley track.

Enter the Mask
Masque Powers has been keeping people unidentifiable in the French Quarter since 1980. It’s not only the hypocenter for exotic masks, it’s home to a working studio called Café au Clay that offers parent-child bonding through painting. The studio tour takes you through the entire clay-firing process and includes lunch. But the real fun is personalizing your mask and showing it off back at home.
