Las Vegas - Dish

Fry This! Fry This!
Company American Bistro at the Luxor Hotel & Casino advertises its fare as “new American cuisine inspired by the combination of western techniques and Asian ingredients.” Translation: Deep-fried eggplant. Eggplant isn’t the only deep-fried delicacy on the menu, but it might be the best. Also check out the deep-fried sliders and wash those down with an Apricot Ale Float. You might have to dance your tail off to burn all those calories, and this Company has you covered with a front-of-the-line pass to nearby LAX. Just ask your server for an escort to the head of the line to enter the club, and he’ll walk you over personally. 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South

Plush Lush
Our warm spinach salad, prepared tableside at the Carmel Room (located inside the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa at Summerlin) prepared us for all the great fare to come. No surprise, given the restaurant’s fine reputation. We enjoyed our elegant surroundings reminiscent of old school Vegas (wood paneling and leather booths) and the best service we ever experienced in Sin City. Steaks are king at the Carmel Room, and the wine list is definitely worthy of such a suave establishment. Note: Save room for the chocolate soufflé! It’s the cherry on top of a marvelous meal to be remembered.

Jovial host Giuseppe will guide you to your Terra Rossa table at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa, where you will be greeted by an assortment of complimentary antipasti before you even have an opportunity to read the extensive Italian menu. A wood-burning oven, viewed through the restaurant’s open kitchen, helps prepare delicious pizzas with paper-thin crusts. We recommend the made-on-the premises gelato and the post-dinner Terra Rossa martini, the flavor of which changes daily according to Giuseppe’s whim.

Flavor Sensation Flavor Sensation
You don’t have to love sushi to love Sushi Samba. In fact, this second floor Palazzo restaurant’s delightful mix of Japanese, Peruvian, and Brazilian cuisine has something for every palate, including duck breast, filet mignon, and organic chicken. Manager’s suggestion: jalapeno and lemongrass sauce — normally served with the yellowtail sashimi tiradito — with the Alaskan King Crab Leg.

Enchanted Evening Enchanted Evening
Given that steakhouses have been a Las Vegas staple for as long as there have been slot machines, we were excited to discover a new one: SW Steakhouse at the Wynn. As it is located on the resort’s Lake of Dreams, this dining spot begs you to request a terrace or window table for a spectacular view of the waterfall and nightly light and music show. Exemplary chef David Walzog creates a mouth-watering menu, earning SW the distinction of being voted the city’s best steakhouse by Las Vegas Life magazine. Of note: If you’re lucky and you hit SW on the right night, you will catch Ohmi Beef on the specials menu, a delicacy rarely available outside of Japan.

Hidden Treasure Hidden Treasure
Craving something different to eat? Step inside Treasure Island (now known as T.I.) to find Pho, the only Vietnamese eatery on the Strip, where we discovered a variety of delicious rice and noodle dishes served piping hot. If you’re down on the blackjack chips, try the under-priced ($7) Cha Gio, authentic Vietnamese egg rolls you wrap in lettuce and dip in Nuoc Cham. Very traditional, very delicious.

Irish Eyes are Smiling Irish Eyes are Smiling
J.C. Wooloughan Irish Pub in the JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa is not only really Irish, it is really authentic. The interior was dismantled from an original pub outside of Dublin and re-created, piece-by-piece, inside J.C. Wooloughan’s. This friendly pub not only serves Irish beer and whiskey but also a great Celtic food menu and live Celtic music. Recipes include favorite family dishes like roasted corn chowder and braised Beef n’ Guinness.

The Restaurant That Doesn’t Sleep The Restaurant That Doesn’t Sleep
It’s the middle of the night, and everyone’s hungry. The party has shifted to the 24-7 Café at the Palms casino, where business doesn’t pick up until drinking and dancing succumb to hunger pangs. Have your fill of Chinese food until 3 a.m., and your choice of breakfast, lunch, or dinner items all night long. The salads, steaks, and sandwiches are several notches above your neighborhood diner’s, but cold cereal is still there for you if you need it. Let the after-party buzz provide the atmosphere.

Las Vegas By a Waterfall By a Waterfall
Until a faux pagoda finally graces the Strip, the closest you’ll get to Japan in Nevada is the Okada restaurant at the Wynn Hotel. The food is transcendent — from smooth, floral Jozen sake to top-flight sliced Kobe steak with Japanese sweet potatoes. But the real ticket to Tokyo is a cascading waterfall just beyond the open wall, spilling into a peaceful reflecting pool and luring you outside. Hint: Poolside seats are at a premium, so plan to eat early if you seek your sake al fresco.

Las Vegas Fish and Microchips Fish and Microchips
In James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef Paul Bartolotta’s kitchen, appropriately called Bartolotta, nearly everything is from Italy, including the chef himself — famed as he is for his highly acclaimed Spiaggia in Chicago. Here, up to 40 species of fish are imported directly from the Mediterranean, each monitored by a microchip to ensure the right temperature. Another la dolce vita indulgence: taking advantage of the recommendations of sommelier Claudio Vilani, whose skills were honed in his native Italy.
