Barting Over
Springfield comes to Universal Studios Hollywood in the guise of the Simpsons Ride. Once aboard guests venture off to Krustyland. Using virtual reality and outrageous imagination, this thrilltacular roller coaster captures the fun and spirit of the long-running animated show — and has proved to be just as popular.

Sounds Like Something Special
Though they perform shows on Sunset, star in music videos and even appear on YouTube, The Kids of Widney High
are distinct among other L.A. high school students in that they are all
enrolled in special education. Backed by a five-piece rock band,
Widney's musicians deliver their original compositions at august
Southern California venues throughout the year (call or check the Web
site for show times).

Lemon Aid
It's not exactly the lemonade stand from the Our Gang comedies, but the subterranean Lemonade
— yes, that's what it's called — resembles a retro but upscale
grade-school cafeteria that sells, you guessed it. Freshly squeezed.
But grab a tray and also sample a grilled cheese with ham and quince on
pumpernickel, along with a snap pea and edamame salad. For dessert: a
chocolate-dipped marshmallow square. Kitschy, but cute.

Dreamers Take Wing
Really want to feel like Peter Pan? Here's your chance. Promising excitement, adrenaline and adventure, iFLY Hollywood
utilizes a vertical wind tunnel — which the Wall Street Journal
described as looking like "a spaceship" — to move air up in a column
and offer you the best possible flight experience for indoor skydiving.
(Propelling you are four fans of up to 1,200 horsepower that can
produce a 180-m.p.h. wind current — enough wind resistance to simulate
free fall.) Located within walking distance of the main entrance of
Universal Studios, in the shopping and eating area CityWalk, iFLY
Hollywood provides (if you're brave enough to open your eyes) a
360-degree view of the promenade below, for $39.95. Catt Sadler from E!
has been known to hop in, and discounts are available for birthday
parties.

Dodger Stadium Goes Green
It's about as far away from Ebbets Field and Nathan's Famous as you can get, but Dodger Stadium's
peanuts and Cracker Jack offerings have been upgraded to include
gourmet wraps and hummus — on menus that even a kid could love. The
additions come from Levy Restaurants, an established fixture in the
ballpark's luxury suites and Stadium Club overlooking the field. Their
new addition this season is "The Healthy Cart," located on the Loge
level. Its service features "the Lighter side of Levy" and caters to
the health-conscious, with such provisions as gourmet veggie wraps,
fresh fruit and hummus dips. Batter up.

Hands-on Jaws
Earlier this year, the Aquarium of the Pacific
had to take down its “Do Not Touch The Sharks” sign as the tank prepped
for repairs, but now you can get your hands on “Shark Lagoon Nights,”
when more than 150 kinder and gentler sharks get the touchy-feely
treatment. The big guys — sand tiger, nurse, black tip and white tip
sharks — are also on display, but strictly hands-off. Every Friday
night from 6-9 PM. This shoreside aquarium is down the street from
plenty of shopping and restaurants, so give thought to making a day of
it.

Kid-Friendly in Downtown
The Westin Bonaventure
might not pose serious competition to Disneyland, but this luxurious
high-rise hotel just made it easier to keep kids entertained during a
trip to L.A. Book a single- or multiple-night stay at the Bonaventure
in 2008, enter their promotion code and the kids will receive free
room-service meals throughout the duration of the stay. Also for the
asking is a complimentary in-room movie every night. For the adult,
unwinding is available via a chair massage, shiatsu or any other
full-service spa essential inside the third-floor Bonaventure Club. And
don’t forget to take the little ones to the roof — on a clear day, you
might even see Space Mountain.
